Austin's Greatest Local Barbecue Tips & Tricks

If you're looking to get some oh so tasty barbecue but dread the ridiculously long line, try getting some Austin BBQ like a pro. Just like everything in life, timing is everything. Where and when will save you hours so give these "Barbecue Secrets" a try.

LA Barbecue

Wednesdays @ 3pm

You may not have every meat option available at 3pm, but you can always count on brisket and practically no wait. LA Barbecue has some of the best brisket I've ever tasted, but beware of the spice. The meats here, as well as the pickles, can be a little spicy at times in case you're sensitive to heat. If there are beef ribs still available, just pay the man/woman. They are a little pricey but worth every penny.

Kerlin BBQ

Wed thru Sun, 11am-4pm

This little gem is my #1 go-to option for quick but still outstanding BBQ especially if there is a wait at LA Barbecue. Even on a busy Saturday morning, you'll wait a maximum of 10-15 minutes to order but that usually means they'll give you a complimentary Lone Star for taking the time. Make sure to try the brisket kolaches or the (always amazing) brisket sandwich. It's right next to a fantastic taco truck (Veracruz Tacos) but watch out for parking. You'll quickly find yourself getting towed if you're parked in the lot in front of the Pinata Party Palace, as I've seen multiple people feel the wrath of those not so pleasant "party" people.

Franklin's Barbecue

Tuesdays @ 2pm

Franklin's might be the best acclaimed barbecue in the known universe and you'll pay the price of time to try it. The line here begins way before they open which generally requires bringing your own lawn chairs (and/or beer) for the wait to come. I've never been one to wait patiently so if you're like me you'll try this approach. Granted you may miss out on some ribs but you'll feel like a champion when you walk out of there feeling full in 30 minutes or less.

I hope these barbecue secrets keep you out of the line and help keep you weird. If you're looking for more Austin Barbecue insider tips, have housing questions, or have any other questions about the city, make sure to reach out to us here at RA Residential. RA Residential, love where you live.
